  59. ICS Larry:    STEP #1:  Download Testing procedures.

  61. ICS Larry:    All new uploads must be tested to make sure they can be correctly
  62. ICS Larry:    downloaded.

  64. ICS Larry:    Important Note:   If the file is in a compressed format (PKZip,
  65. ICS Larry:    Stuffit, etc), I highly recommend you DO NOT use the AOL "auto
  66. ICS Larry:    decompress" feature, as you will want to do Virus Checking on any
  67. ICS Larry:    compressed file BEFORE you actually decompress it.  ;)

  69. ICS Larry:    If the compressed file passes the Downloading Test AND the
  70. ICS Larry:    compressed file passes the Virus Checking test, THEN you will
  71. ICS Larry:    need to go back and do the Downloading Test again WITH the
  72. ICS Larry:    AOL "auto decompress" feature enabled.

  74. ICS Larry:    Reason for that .... with all the new and strange virus's, I wouldn't recommend
  75. ICS Larry:    using "Auto Extract after log off".  How knows what some of these new virus might 
  76. ICS Larry:    be capable of doing during "extraction".  ;/

  83. ICS Larry:    After a file has passed the Download Testing, you will need to do
  84. ICS Larry:    Virus Checking.  To do this testing we MUST all use the Virus
  85. ICS Larry:    Checking application that has been approved by ICS.

  88. ICS Larry:        McAfee SCAN.

  101. ICS Larry:    must be tested to make sure the file will decompress correctly
  102. ICS Larry:    using AOL's "auto decompress" feature (for PC's thats PKZip v1).

  105. ICS Larry:    to ensure they will decompress correctly (using PKUnZip), and
  106. ICS Larry:    you'll also need to include a "Warning" notice within the File

  114. ICS Larry:    After you have decompressed the downloaded file, you will again
  115. ICS Larry:    need to do Virus Checking, to ensure that the individual
  116. ICS Larry:    decompressed files are virus free.

  118. ICS Larry:    If any of the decompressed files are (for PC users) .BAT files, you
  119. ICS Larry:    will also need to view them (but dang it, don't RUN them yet!!).  ;)
  120. ICS Larry:    We do this to make sure the .BAT files contain no disasterious
  121. ICS Larry:    type commands (like FORMAT C:).

  130. ICS Larry:    In a nutshell, you want to let your IC Supervisor do the dirty work
  131. ICS Larry:    whenever a file is suspected of being infected.  ;)

  142. ICS Rich:    I use a Mac :)
  143. ICS Rich:    and a PC
  144. ICS Larry:    1)  When you get a new upload that isn't compatable with your computer ....
  145. ICS Larry:    2)  Contact your Supervisor.  They'll arrange to have somebody check the file.  ;)
  146. ICS Larry:    They'll usually ask you to "move" the file to the fatdome's software library .....
  147. ICS Larry:    or something like that at least.  ;)

  155. ICS Larry:    This test procedure is a bit "if-ish".  If your not familar with the
  156. ICS Larry:    program (ie: its a WordPerfect Add-On, and you don't have
  157. ICS Larry:    WordPerfect), its pretty hard to test!  ;)

  159. ICS Larry:    My best recommendation would be to test any "executable" type
  160. ICS Larry:    program to see if it will at least run.  If you have troubles running
  161. ICS Larry:    the program using the supplied documentation, then its more than
  162. ICS Larry:    likely that other AOL customers will have the same problem.

  164. ICS Larry:    In those cases, I'd highly recommend contacting the Uploader to
  165. ICS Larry:    check if there might of been in error in the program (or in the
  166. ICS Larry:    uploading of the program), or if there's any addition "doc" files that
  167. ICS Larry:    should of been included in the upload.

  169. ICS Larry:    If additional "doc" files are needed -- You will need to either include
  170. ICS Larry:    them in the File Description -or- have the uploader re-upload the
  171. ICS Larry:    program so that it includes the complete "docs".

  173. ICS Larry:    Also, if there's really no possible way for you to test the functionality of a program ...
  174. ICS Larry:    you might want to contact your Supervisor, and see if they know anybody that can ...
  175. ICS Larry:    test the file for you.

  187. FUBIE ROB:    Macromedia...for example...the damn software would cost $5,000 to check their files!
  188. ICS Larry:    Thus, I'd recommend not getting them involved in testing .... tho!  Here's where that ....
  189. ICS Larry:    good tip comes in ..... you might wanta ask if they could send you a "preview" type ...

  206. ICS Gary:    Most of mine are either graphic files which are checkable or addons to co's proggs

  233. ICS Larry:    Step #2:  1st determine if this is a file that the Co. Rep would like
  234. ICS Larry:    to have in their library (many times you'll find that Rep's don't want
  235. ICS Larry:    certain "customer uploads" released in the library - so its a good
  236. ICS Larry:    idea to check first, before doing all your testing).  ;)

  238. ICS Larry:    Step #3:  Do your download testing.  If its a compressed file, also
  239. ICS Larry:    do virus checking on the compress file BEFORE you actually
  240. ICS Larry:    decompress it.

  244. ICS Larry:    Step #5:  Do Virus Checking on all decompressed files, and view

  248. ICS Larry:    need to use the "PC File Name" guidelines, and fix up the File
